The Great Wall of China is the collective name of a series of fortification systems, generally built across the northern borders of China to protect the empire against various nomadic tribes from the steppes to the north.

Work commenced in 214 BC to stop raids by the Xiongne raiders from the north and over 500,000 labourers were used during the 32-year building period to create the First Great Wall. The Fourth Great Wall was built by the Ming Dynasty 1367 – 1644 and it is this wall which is mostly visited by tourists these days as the other three walls are mostly in ruins.

I led the Great Wall of China Trek for Charity Challenge with a group of about 30 participants raising money for various charities.
