The Sham Valley, which is also known as the Apricot Valley, is one of the easier treks in Ladakh. The trek is suitable for those on a first visit to the Himalayas and for a gentle introduction to higher altitudes.
The Sham Valley Trek offers enjoyable trekking with spectacular views through remote high villages in the Ladakh region of northern India crossing several higher passes, streams, willow plantations and barley fields. The changing landscapes offer incredible views on this trek which starts at Liker, reached by road from Leh.
The route crosses three high passes; Phobe La (3,580m), Mental La (3,750m) and the Tsermangchen La (3,750m).
Highlights of this trip include: Leh ( Leh Palace – Leh Fort – Leh Bazaars), Ancient Monasteries, Remote Mountain Villages (Ang and Hemis Shukpachen) with local homestay accommodation.
I have led this trek twice before for Diageo/Johnnie Walker as a corporate event for staff. A video of the second trek can be viewed here.
