Congratulations to Phill Warren and Paul Morris who passed this award to a very high standard yesterday under very challenging weather conditions in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

“Thank you for the recent NNAS Gold Assessment day. I thought the terrain was ideal for the day, being both challenging and lacking in major features. Timing of the day was also prefect with the day into night element working really well. Despite poor conditions (which were actually beneficial in adding to difficulty) I had an excellent day/evening on the hills. Thank you and I look forward to completing further training with yourself.” – Phill Warren

” Excellently  run and administered course.  Pre-training and assessment briefing was good, giving clear advice and guidance on the course syllabus, kit requirements and where to meet.
High quality instruction given during the training days by Alan Ward.  His extensive knowledge and experience was evident throughout the course.  Everyone was made to feel at ease and the training was carefully structured progressing from the basics  to the more advanced navigation skills, with opportunities for all candidates to demonstrate what they had learnt.  The instructor as patient, happy to reinforce navigational techniques to ensure they were understood by all.  Candidates were helped to identify areas they needed to focus on and practice prior to booking an assessment.

The assessment day was well planned.  Careful consideration had been given to the location, given the poor weather conditions.  Good briefing session before venturing into the hills.  Expectations for the day were clearly set out.  Navigational tasks were at times challenging, but to be expected for NNAS Gold.  The safety of candidates was considered at all stages, especially when the weather was at it worst and when coming off the hills in darkness.
The offer of a celebratory jam doughnut at the end of assessment was a very nice touch!
I consider the NNAS Gold to be an ideal pre-course to anyone thinking about doing the Hill and Moorland Leader (HML) qualification.
Thank you Yolande and Alan Ward of Bigfoot Services for another thoroughly enjoyable course.  I look forward to doing the NNAS Tutor Award in due course.” –
Kind regards, Paul Morris
